Christianist Republicans Systematically Incited Colorado Clinic Assault

Planned Parenthood Colorado assault

After months of verbal assault against Planned Parenthood and against women more broadly, Republican Christianists have gotten what they were asking for—bloodshed.

On November 27, a mass shooting left three dead and nine wounded at a Planned Parenthood clinic just miles from the headquarters of the Religious Right flagship, Focus on the Family. Was the shooting exactly what conservative Christian presidential candidates and members of congress wanted? Maybe, maybe not. But it is what they asked for. Republican members of the Religious Right incited violence as predictably as if they had issued a call for Christian abortion foes to take up arms. Inciting violence this way is called stochastic terrorism:

Stochastic terrorism is the use of mass communications to incite random actors to carry out violent or terrorist acts that are statistically predictable but individually unpredictable. In short, remote-control murder by lone wolf.”

Quote of the Day

Radfem Repost

Transwomen are the ultimate expression of men’s right to godhood. Men have made up amazing stories and myths through the years.

Particularly popular are the myths where woman is born of man, ribs and foreheads yanno, instead of the way babies are born in the reality-based community.

“Transwomen are women” is the latest blatant falsehood men are insisting must be taken on faith, because they are men and why would they lie?

It takes force to make people submit to myths that are so obviously power plays and tools to build hierarchy in a society. That is why male violence is the greatest human rights crisis the world has ever known.

Pornography happens to real women and girls; it is the documentation of sexual abuse sold as public entertainment. Photographs of sexual abuse are in no way comparable to photographs of ordinary things like food or houses.

The reason people will call a particularly enticing photograph of delicious food “porn” is because porn is entirely normalized and we don’t think of it as anything serious. We think of porn as being just images of beautiful women, no harm done. We don’t…

Gaslighting Culture

I have often thought this about our culture. I like finding people who think like I do.

Lately I am really coming to terms with the fact that patriarchy is a gaslighting culture, and for the most part, messages do not need to be true in order to be consistently believed by a large number of people, or to be actively disseminated by the media. In fact, I’d go far enough to say that truth is often considered irrelevant in the media. I used to get angry when these messages veered so far off course from the truth, but I’m starting to see that as a feature and not a bug. That is, they never were meant to convey truths or reality- they were meant as wide spread propaganda.

For example, neo-liberal culture frames personal individual negative impacts in terms of “choice” and “consent” rather than systems of power that constrain groups of people, even though choice has very little to do with whether, say, impoverished inner…
